A 76-year-old male pedestrian has died following a fail-to-remain collision in Ajax, Durham Regional Police say.
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, at approximately 4:45 p.m., West Division officers responded to the collision at Ringer Road and Harwood Avenue North. Police say the man was walking in the crosswalk across Harwood Avenue North when he was struck by a white 2014 Dodge Ram pickup, which failed to remain at the scene.
The pedestrian was initially believed to have suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local-area hospital. His condition later deteriorated and he was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he succumbed to his injuries, police say.
The suspect vehicle and its 69-year-old female driver were located shortly after the collision. Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit have been notified and the cause of the collision remains under investigation. No charges have been announced.
Anyone with cellphone, dashcam or surveillance footage, or information about the incident, is asked to contact D/Cst. Daniels of the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5226.
