The Town of Ajax is piloting Hot In-Place Recycling (HIR) technology on Rossland Road between Audley Road and Lake Ridge Road, the town announced Oct. 20.

The pilot provides an interim solution ahead of the full reconstruction of the section anticipated in 2030/2031, reusing existing asphalt on-site at approximately 44 per cent less cost than traditional resurfacing. The town says it will evaluate the effectiveness of HIR over the next four years and consider it for other town roads.

Work is scheduled to start Oct. 26, weather permitting, and will take about two days, the town says, with short-term traffic delays expected. The project uses locally developed technology.

"This pilot project reflects the Town's commitment to innovation, sustainability and responsible infrastructure investment," Mayor Shaun Collier said in the release.
