Our promise
Accuracy is the foundation of journalism. When Daily Durham publishes incorrect information, we correct it as soon as we confirm the error — and we make the correction visible. We do not silently edit an article to fix a fact.
How we correct stories
- Factual errors — names, numbers, dates, titles, locations, or quotes — are fixed in the article and marked with a note at the bottom describing what was changed and when.
- Significant errors that change the substance of a story are flagged with a correction note at the top of the article in addition to the bottom note.
- Updated information(a story that develops after publication) is added with a clearly labelled "Update" note rather than as a correction.
- Headlines and social posts derived from the corrected article are also updated. We do not delete original social media posts; we reply with a correction.
- Withdrawn stories— when the underlying reporting cannot be substantiated — are unpublished from the article URL and replaced with an editor's note explaining why.
How to report an error
Email info@dailydurham.com with:
- The URL of the story
- The specific sentence or claim you believe is wrong
- Why you believe it is wrong, with a source if possible
We respond within two business days. If the correction is urgent (a story is causing real-world harm), email the editor directly at info@dailydurham.com.
Recent corrections
We keep a public log of corrections at the bottom of each corrected article. A site-wide corrections feed is in the works — for now, individual story pages carry their own correction notes.
