Durham Regional Police say a family discovered a sewing needle while sorting Halloween candy collected in the Sultana Square, Foxwood Trail and Braeburn Crescent area in Pickering.

Police say the needle was found loose among the collected candy and was not located inside any candy or chip packaging. No injuries were reported.

Police seized the item, and the investigation remains ongoing to determine how the foreign object became associated with the Halloween candy. Police remind parents and guardians to inspect all Halloween candy before it is consumed and to report any suspicious items to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Durham Regional Police Service at 905-579-1520.

Police reported the Pickering needle in the same release as a wire found inside a packaged gummy candy in Ajax, which was collected in the Rossland Road West and Church Street North area.
