The Region of Durham says work on the third segment of the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit project is scheduled along Kingston Road in Pickering between Steeple Hill and Merritton Road from September 28, 2026, to August 31, 2028. Unfavourable weather may affect the schedule. The project is intended to build the third segment of the rapid transit line.
Lane shifts and restrictions will be in place on Kingston Road throughout the work. From late October 2026 to summer 2027, the road is scheduled to have one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes for an extended period while major wastewater work is carried out.
The Region says a separate stage is planned for late 2027 at the Whites Road and Fairport Road intersections. Kingston Road is expected to be reduced to one lane in each direction there for longer periods while new transit stop platforms are built.
Bus routes, bus stops, sidewalks and businesses are expected to remain open throughout construction. The project is partially funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Region advises drivers to use caution around pedestrians, cyclists and work crews and directs residents to its live TrafficWatch map for current project and traffic information.
