A 57-year-old Toronto man is facing multiple charges following a vehicle financing fraud investigation in Oshawa, Durham Regional Police say. Police allege that between Oct. 22 and Oct. 26, 2026, the accused impersonated an Oshawa resident and used forged identification to arrange the purchase of a 2027 GMC Acadia Denali from Mills Motors in Oshawa. Dealership staff contacted the real individual and confirmed he was not involved in the transaction, police say.
On Oct. 26, 2026, the accused attended the dealership to complete the purchase and take possession of the vehicle, at which time police were notified, according to the release. Members of Central East Division arrested the accused, who was found in possession of fraudulent identification bearing the victim's name. Officers also located approximately 11 grams of fentanyl on the accused, police say.
Further investigation revealed the accused was bound by two release orders and was wanted on a warrant with another police service, police say. Ronald Whittaker, 57, of Toronto, is charged with fraud over $5,000, personation to gain advantage, uttering a forged document, possession of an identity document (two counts), failing to comply with a release order (two counts) and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was held for a bail hearing. The charges have not been proven in court.
