Durham Regional Police say Hate Crime Unit investigators concluded their investigation on Wednesday, September 23, and took a man into custody after he reportedly promoted anti-Muslim hatred online. The release says the suspect used the name “Sean Strife” on social media and allegedly incited violence and harm against the Muslim community.
DRPS identifies the accused as Sean FARRO, 57, of Whitby. Police list two charges: Offence Motivated by Hatred – Uttering Threats, and Incite Hatred in Public Place. The release says he was held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the DRPS Hate Crime Unit at 1-888-579-1520, extension 5800. Police also refer readers to their hate-crime information page and say anonymous information may be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.
The police release says the information comes from an investigation and that the allegations have yet to be proven in court.
