A 42-year-old Toronto man has been charged after a Durham Regional Police human-trafficking investigation, police say. The investigation began after a woman came forward in the summer of 2026 and reported being exploited in the sex trade between June 2024 and October 2025.

Police say the suspect recruited the woman through a mutual friend and forced her into the sex trade, exploiting her throughout the Greater Toronto Area. On November 2, 2026, members of the police Human Trafficking Unit executed a search warrant at the accused's Toronto residence and arrested him without incident, police say.

Jean Peralta Marseille, 42, of Toronto, is charged with trafficking in persons, material benefit from sexual services, procuring/exercising control, advertising sexual services, withholding or destroying identity documents, and three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance, police say. Investigators believe there may be further victims and have released an image of the suspect; anyone with information is asked to contact the Human Trafficking Unit at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5600. The allegations have yet to be proven in court.
