Durham Regional Police say Project Atlantis II, a six-month proactive enforcement and community engagement initiative in downtown Oshawa, concluded with 490 arrests and 808 charges laid between April and September 2026. Officers also issued 406 provincial offence notices, responded to 436 calls for service, and completed 307 business and community engagement visits.
Officers logged more than 2,100 hours of bicycle patrol plus foot and UTV patrols through the downtown core, waterfronts, trails and parks, with a focus on disrupting thefts, property crime and the sale of illicit drugs. Police Chief Peter Moreira said the initiative combined targeted enforcement with community partnerships to address public safety concerns, while Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter said lasting progress also requires stronger investments in treatment, housing and support services.
