Parliamentary Secretary Jennifer McKelvie, the Member of Parliament for Ajax, met with Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation in Oshawa today to highlight housing investments in federal Budget 2026, "Masters of our destiny," according to a release from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
The release says Budget 2026 puts Canada on a path to end homelessness in 10 years, in coordination with municipalities, provinces and territories, and enhances the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit with a 2027 supplement.
It also says the budget supports one million energy-efficient home retrofits, cuts monthly energy bills, makes the Canada Caregiver Credit fully refundable, and provides $1.5 billion to expand, retrofit and rehabilitate ice rinks and recreational facilities across the country.
"Oshawa is a dynamic city, driven by its businesses, workers, and families. Through Budget 2026, our government is giving them more tools to invest, create good jobs, and build more housing, while helping make life more affordable," McKelvie said in the release.
Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in the release that Budget 2026 "builds on those strengths by unlocking investment, building more at home, strengthening our energy and natural resource advantage, and helping Canadian businesses grow and compete on the world stage."
