Durham Region says its annual Disability Employment Conference will take place Friday, October 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Science Building at Ontario Tech University, 2000 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa, is the event location.
The Region says the conference will bring employers, community organizations, educators and accessibility advocates together to explore approaches to more inclusive workplaces. The event is being held in partnership with Ontario Tech University and Ready, Willing and Able.
Featured keynote speaker Dr. Mahadeo Sukhai is described in the announcement as the world’s first congenitally blind geneticist and a nationally recognized leader advancing equitable employment across Canada. The program also includes a panel of employment and accessibility professionals and recruiters.
The free conference will include a hiring event for people with disabilities. Durham Region Employment Services and Durham Employment and Newcomer Centre are partners in inviting people from the disability community to participate.
