Durham Regional Police say one of their officers has been charged with assault following an investigation by the service. Police Constable Brandon Welsh-Battiste of West Division, who has three years of service, was charged with one count of assault after an incident that occurred on-duty during an arrest.

He has been released on an undertaking and reassigned to administrative duties until court proceedings are complete, at which point an investigation under the Community Safety and Policing Act will begin. Anyone with information is asked to contact DRPS' Professional Standards Unit at 905-579-1520 ext. 5131. The allegations have yet to be proven in court.
