Durham food bank delivers 250,000 meals from two garages, seeks permanent home

Rozi Roti – Life with Purpose, a volunteer-driven food bank serving Durham Region, has delivered more than 250,000 free halal meals over the past two years — all while operating out of two garages.

According to the organization's two-year impact report, covering September 2024 to September 2026, the group provides 100 per cent halal food with free home delivery across Durham Region, from Pickering to Bowmanville, at zero cost to households. Food is distributed through seven community collection points, and is open to anyone in need regardless of faith, culture, race or background.

Founder Laeeq Qureshi says the organization has not yet secured a dedicated facility for food storage, sorting and distribution, and is appealing for help finding suitable, affordable space so the work can continue sustainably.

The group says it welcomes interviews and visits to observe its volunteer operations, and would appreciate introductions to property owners, businesses or community organizations that may be able to help with appropriate space. Qureshi can be reached at 647-561-7979.
