The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled various brands of organic cheeses due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, in a food recall warning published October 14.
The affected products include Farm Boy organic Swiss, medium, old, extra sharp and three-year-old cheddar cheeses, Life Smart organic part skim mozzarella, and several L'Ancetre organic cheddar, Swiss and mozzarella varieties, sold in sizes up to 2 kg with best-before dates into 2027.
The CFIA says food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness, and pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
Consumers should check whether they have the recalled products, and should not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute them; the products should be thrown out or returned to where they were purchased.
The recall was triggered by CFIA test results, and the agency says there have been no reported illnesses associated with these products.
