Durham Regional Police Service says it is seeking Shahfaisal Arab Qureshi, 23, of Toronto, in connection with a counterfeit-currency investigation involving an Oshawa electronics shop. Police say the purchase took place Monday, July 13, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m. at Cell Xpress, 1000 Simcoe Street North.
According to the police release, the man purchased a cellphone for $1000 in cash. The business later identified the currency as counterfeit and contacted police.
DRPS lists wanted charges of Fraud Under $5000, Utter Counterfeit Currency, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000. Police state that the allegations have not been proven in court. The release says a photo of Qureshi is available on the DRPS website.
Anyone with cellphone, dashcam or surveillance footage, or information about the incident, is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520, extension 1905. Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through its website; tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
