A seven-year-old from Whitby is one step closer to becoming the next Super Kid. Jayden has won his group finals and advanced to the quarter-finals of Colossal's North American Super Kid competition, where he currently sits fourth in his group.
The competition began with approximately 84,000 children across North America. Only 840 remain — putting Jayden in the top one per cent as the contest heads toward its semi-finals. Voting for the semi-finalists ends Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m. Pacific time.
The winner will star in their own Stan Lee Universe comic book, receive VIP tickets to L.A. Comic Con and take home $25,000. Votes can be cast free once every 24 hours, and votes by donation support the Stan Lee Foundation's literacy mission.
For Jayden, the competition is about more than winning. His mother, Vivian Yeung, says he wants to inspire other children to stand up for kids who are bullied or left out, and to remind them that kindness, courage and inclusion are superpowers anyone can develop. He is also passionate about reading — his catchphrase is “Reading is knowledge, and knowledge is power!”
Jayden's competition page describes his superpower as courage: he stands up to bullies, speaks for kids who are shy, and guides younger children with kindness and confidence. His favourite superhero, he says, is his dad.
