Whitby Local Business Week runs October 20 to 24, with the town's tourism and wellness sector taking centre stage. Invest Whitby is hosting a free Tourism and Wellness panel on October 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Port Whitby Marina, where four local experts will discuss trends, opportunities and the future of tourism and wellness in Whitby, with networking for industry peers.

The week coincides with Small Business Week programming from the Business Advisory Centre Durham, which is offering nearly all of its sessions free of charge, including Understanding Financial Statements, Fundamentals of Buying and Selling a Business, Securing Your Online Presence, a Side Gig Bootcamp in Clarington, and a networking lunch. The Region of Durham is also inviting businesses to a virtual session on bicycle parking on October 22 as part of its Bicycle Parking Guidelines Project.

Local milestones featured in the roundup include Durham Escape Rooms marking ten years in Whitby this October, and Hy-Hope Farm and Golf Course in Ashburn earning a screen credit as the interior of the Tall Pines general store in the Netflix series Wayward. The Gather at the Farm fall campaign continues through October with nearly two dozen farms, markets and fall events across Durham's rural communities. Tourism businesses, organizations and event organizers in Durham, York and Headwaters have until December 15 at 3 p.m. to apply for the Central Counties Tourism Partnership Program, a matching-funds initiative covering projects through March 31, 2026.
