Clarington is accepting applications from residents for five advisory committees and boards. The Municipality lists eight vacancies on the Accessibility Advisory Committee, seven on the Committee of Adjustment, six on the Property Standards Committee, eight on the Public Library Board and two for Livestock Valuers. Applications are due October 14, and the term runs through December 31, 2030.
The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Municipality on strategies for a barrier-free community and reviews policies, programs and services against provincial accessibility standards. Applicants for this committee must live in Clarington and have knowledge of AODA and its standards and accessibility issues. At least half of the committee must be people with disabilities. The Committee of Adjustment considers evidence at public hearings and makes decisions on minor-variance applications under the Zoning By-law; it meets as needed, typically monthly.
The Property Standards Committee hears appeals of orders issued by Property Standards Officers. Clarington describes the role as quasi-judicial and says members should be familiar with tribunal procedures, admissibility of evidence and relevant provisions of the Ontario Building Code Act. The Public Library Board oversees policies, operations and programs for the Library, Museums and Archives, and helps set goals and secure funding.
Livestock Valuers investigate claims for livestock killed or injured by wildlife under Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. They determine the type of predator, prepare a report for the Municipal Clerk and owner, and calculate compensation under the program. The Municipality lists the Accessibility Advisory Committee and Public Library Board as volunteer positions; the 2026 rates are $107.64 per Committee of Adjustment meeting, $59.37 per Property Standards Committee meeting, and $61.15 per Livestock Valuer visit plus mileage.
