Clarington opens new Bowmanville Community Complex dome with open house

Clarington opened the new FIFA-sized multi-sport dome at the Bowmanville Community Complex on Oct 3, welcoming about 1,700 residents to an open house — the municipality's first new recreation centre in nearly 20 years.

Clarington's turf sports have a new home. The municipality opened the new multi-sport dome at the Bowmanville Community Complex with an open house on Saturday, October 3, attended by about 1,700 residents — less than a year and a half after ground-breaking in May 2025, the municipality says.

The 100,000-square-foot dome is about four times larger than the former Bowmanville Indoor Soccer Centre, with premium rubber-crumb-free FIFA-sized turf and a three-lane, 370-metre indoor walking track. Dome programs begin October 13.

It is Clarington's first new recreation centre in nearly 20 years. Future phases of the Bowmanville Community Complex include two FIBA-sized multi-sport courts, Durham Region's first outdoor refrigerated skating trail, an aquatics centre, splash pad and fitness studio; the project is supported in part by a $10-million grant from the Province of Ontario's Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.
