Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin and FCM Green Municipal Fund chair Berry Vrbanovic announced the funding on October 2 from a Regional Municipality of Durham multi-unit rent-geared-to-income building undergoing retrofits. The $66.3 million supports 162 projects through the Green Municipal Fund's Community Efficiency Financing and Sustainable Affordable Housing initiatives, covering capital projects, program design studies and feasibility studies.

The projects span every region of Canada, including 39 in Ontario. The Durham building where the announcement was made received a $4.8 million grant and $5.2 million loan through the Sustainable Affordable Housing initiative for a four-building retrofit aimed at improving energy efficiency, comfort and air quality for senior residents.
