Ontario is investing another $27,500 in the Seniors Active Living Centres in Whitby, MPP Lorne Coe announced Oct. 16. The funding is the third quarterly installment payment for this fiscal year, supporting in-person and virtual programs that help adults aged 55 and older stay fit, healthy, active and socially connected.
The Brooklin Community Centre and Library age-friendly programs and the Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre will each receive $13,750. Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho said the province's total investment of up to $22.8 million in Seniors Active Living Centres this year — the largest in Ontario's history — coincides with 60 years since the first Elderly Persons Centres were established under the 1966 Act.
Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy welcomed the investment, saying the centres offer wonderful opportunities for residents to stay active, learn new things and build meaningful connections. Seniors can use the province's online search tool to find a program near them. Sources: MPP Lorne Coe news release, Oct. 16, 2026.
