SIU investigating after man dies during arrest at Whitby home

The Special Investigations Unit, Ontario's police watchdog, has been called in to investigate the death of a 48-year-old man in Whitby.

Police went to a home on Macpherson Street, near Taunton Road West and Coronation Road, around 8:30 p.m. Friday to arrest the man on outstanding warrants. The man barricaded himself inside the home and threatened to harm himself with an edged weapon; officers later went in and found him unresponsive.
