Pickering Ward 2 candidates face voters at all-candidates forum

All certified candidates for Pickering's Ward 2 city and regional council seats took questions from residents at an Oct. 6 forum; a full video recording is available online.

Pickering's Ward 2 hopefuls had their turn in front of voters on Oct. 6, when the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex hosted the Ward 2 all-candidates forum for both city councillor and regional councillor seats — one night before the city's mayoral forum at the same venue.

All certified candidates for both offices attended. Seeking the City Councillor – Ward 2 seat: Stacey Lepine-Fisher, John Meloche, Mara Nagy, Sam Snyders and Vince Viapiana. Seeking the Regional Councillor – Ward 2 seat: Linda Cook, Bushra Rasool and Nancy Van Rooy.

The forum gave candidates a chance to answer questions submitted by community members and discuss issues affecting Ward 2, the City of Pickering and Durham Region, so residents who could not attend in person can hear the answers directly and compare positions before voting.

The complete recording — about 2 hours and 7 minutes — has been posted to YouTube in full: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kZbXI7fgUY

Note: the video was shared by Ward 2 city councillor candidate John Meloche, who is himself on the ballot; Daily Durham previously reported his pledge to donate his first year's pay to local charities if elected.

What's next: Pickering votes Oct. 26. Online voting runs Oct. 19 to 26, and paper ballots will be available on election day. Ward boundaries have changed — Ward 2 voters should confirm their ward before voting.
