Pickering's shared e-scooter pilot nears end of 2026 season

Pickering's shared e-scooter pilot is in the final weeks of its 2026 season, with Bird e-scooters set to leave city streets at the end of October, weather permitting. The City says rider feedback and trip data from the pilot will shape any decision on a permanent program.

Pickering's shared e-scooter pilot is wrapping up its second season, with Bird e-scooters scheduled to come off city streets at the end of October, weather permitting, according to the City of Pickering.

The Bird-operated scooters have been available since April 1 under a partnership that costs the City nothing. They run daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. with new trips cut off at 10:45 p.m., are capped at 20 km/h (15 km/h in slow zones), and must be parked upright in designated spots shown in the Bird app.

City staff, along with Municipal Law Enforcement and Bird Canada, are monitoring the pilot closely. Pickering says it is collecting resident feedback — including reports of collisions, sidewalk riding and bad parking — and will use the data to decide on permanent e-scooter options and operating rules.
