Oshawa Ward 4 City and Regional Councillor Rick Kerr blames the closure of a homeless hub in Ajax for a rise in homelessness in Oshawa, Durham Post reported Tuesday. Kerr says the closure is the major reason for the increase, including expanding issues in other areas.

Kerr is advancing a three-point plan: move or close the Back Door Mission, relocate Cornerstone out of downtown, and repurpose the buildings, according to the article.

Kerr has met with federal MP Rhonda Kirkland on the issue, the newspaper reports. The article also references outgoing Oshawa mayor Dan Carter, senior staff at the Canadian Automotive Museum, Durham Regional Police, the Region of Durham and the federal Minister of Public Safety.
