The more-than-century-old Simcoe Street bridge in Oshawa has been demolished as Metrolinx pushes ahead with the two-year Lakeshore East rail extension to Bowmanville, according to Durham Post reporting with Metrolinx imagery.

The bridge carried Simcoe Street over the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rail line. Work has now started on the foundations of its replacement.

The Farewell Street pedestrian bridge was also brought down as part of the Bowmanville Extension works.

The extension will carry Lakeshore East trains through Courtice to Bowmanville, with new stations planned along the route.
