Durham Regional Police Service says members on proactive patrol saw an Acura sedan travelling without lights at high speed on Simcoe Street North at about 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22. The driver did not stop when officers attempted a traffic stop. Police later found the car unoccupied in a residential driveway, searched the neighbourhood and located its driver hiding in a backyard.
At the time of that arrest, police say the driver was subject to conditions barring him from having care or control of a motor vehicle and requiring him to remain in his residence at night.
As officers continued their investigation, a Tesla SUV entered the area at high speed. Police say officers tried to speak with its driver after the vehicle stopped, but it reversed into two officers and drove away.
DRPS says one officer was taken to a local-area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A second officer went to a local-area hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators identified the Tesla driver as Yaseen WAGGAN, 23, of Ajax and say they are seeking information about his whereabouts. Police list him as wanted for Flight from Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, failing to identify himself to an officer and failing to remain.
