Community organizations have come together to build a new kitchen for Simcoe Hall Settlement House in Oshawa, which provides hot meals to children and seniors through its community programs and food bank.

The project, called the Building More Than Meals Campaign, was presented by Dreams and Wishes Children's Charity in partnership with Simcoe Hall. Rather than seeking mainly financial contributions, the campaign asked local businesses, trades, manufacturers and community partners for in-kind donations of materials, products, equipment and skilled services, according to Simcoe Hall's campaign brochure.

Simcoe Hall says its kitchen is where children begin their mornings with breakfast before school and where families facing food insecurity receive nourishment, but the old space no longer met the growing needs of the community. The renovated kitchen is designed as a modern, safe and efficient space where youth can learn life skills alongside mentors and volunteers can prepare meals for the community.

Simcoe Hall Settlement House is located at 387 Simcoe Street South in Oshawa. The unveiling of the new kitchen was reported October 4, 2026.
