Durham Region's Accessibility Advisory Committee has announced the recipients of the 2026 Durham Region Accessibility Awards, which recognize individuals, businesses and organizations that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to advancing accessibility and inclusion in their communities.
This year's recipients are Progressive Life Centre (Ajax), Donna Schirle (Brock), Autism Home Base (Clarington), Beyond 18 (Oshawa), Snooze Room (Pickering), The Port Cheese Co. (Scugog), the Lucy Maud Montgomery Society of Ontario (Uxbridge) and Durham KidsKare (Whitby), according to the Region's announcement.
"This year's Accessibility Award recipients are making a lasting difference across Durham Region," said Regional Chair John Henry in the announcement, crediting the recipients' innovation, leadership and commitment to removing barriers. Chief Administrative Officer Elaine Baxter-Trahair thanked the recipients for advancing inclusion and helping create a Durham Region where everyone feels welcome, valued and supported.
