Municipalities across Durham Region are coordinating a Hunger Action Month campaign to raise awareness and collect food and monetary donations. The notices say more than 880,000 visits were made last year to food programs in Feed the Need in Durham’s network of 70 community food programs.
Ajax is accepting food at Town Hall, McLean Community Centre, Ajax Community Centre, Audley Recreation Centre and Ajax Public Library – Main Branch. Clarington lists nine locations, including facilities in Courtice, Newcastle and Orono, and says donations received in east Clarington will support Clarington East Food Bank.
In Scugog, donations can be left at the Municipal Office at 181 Perry Street and the Scugog Community Recreation Centre at 1655 Reach Street for delivery to Operation Scugog. Uxbridge is accepting donations at Town Hall, 51 Toronto Street South, and Uxbridge Public Library, 9 Toronto Street South.
The campaign provides municipal web pages for local collection information. Online monetary donations and volunteer information are also available through Feed the Need in Durham.
The municipal notices say every $1 donated allows Feed the Need in Durham to collect, store and distribute two meals and other needed products.
