Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued a statement honouring hometown soccer hero Allysha Chapman on her retirement from international soccer. The Courtice-raised defender represented Canada 100 times, winning Olympic medals and playing in FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments.

Foster said Chapman inspired a generation of Clarington kids to fall in love with the game, bringing what he called her legendary confidence, tenacity and teamwork from the field into the community. The mayor thanked Chapman for everything and wished her well in the future.
