Ajax mowing waterfront pollinator garden to keep it an open meadow

The Town of Ajax says it is mowing its waterfront pollinator garden to prevent the site from growing into a forested area, preserving it as an open meadow. The town says such gardens need cutting every few years and there are no plans to relocate it.

The Town of Ajax is mowing its waterfront pollinator garden to stop the site from succeeding into forest and to preserve it as an open meadow, Durham Radio News reports.

Town officials say the gardens need cutting every few years and there are no plans to relocate the waterfront garden.

Ajax maintains five pollinator gardens, cared for by town staff in summer with mulching and litter cleanup, and the town is one of 95 designated Bee Cities in Canada.
