On September 22, 2026, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Central East Division officers on patrol saw an Acura sedan travelling on Simcoe Street North with no lights at a high rate of speed, according to DRPS. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled. Police later found it parked unoccupied in a residential driveway and located the driver hiding in a backyard. A search of the vehicle found a replica firearm and drugs.
As officers investigated, a Tesla SUV entered the area at high speed. While officers spoke with the driver, the vehicle reversed, striking two officers, and fled. One officer was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries; the second had minor injuries.
On October 1, 2026, the suspect turned himself in and was arrested without incident. A 23-year-old male from Ajax is charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a conveyance, assault causing bodily harm (two counts), failing to comply with a release order (three counts), failing to identify himself to an officer, and failing to remain. He was held for a bail hearing.
Details are attributed to @drps_official and the DRPS media release; the allegations have yet to be proven in court.
