Durham Region says its ID and Benefits Access Hubs will offer residents one-on-one help navigating government benefits and community services this fall.
The hub can help residents access programs including the Canada Pension Plan, Canadian Dental Care Plan, Canada Disability Benefit, Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program. The hubs can also help people obtain or replace identification such as a Social Insurance Number, birth certificate and health card; fees may apply for photo identification and driver’s licences.
Residents can also get help with forms, applications and service navigation, and learn about supports involving housing, food, employment, transit, social services and mental health. Simple tax filing help is available for people with no or modest income, and food hampers will be available while supplies last.
The first hub is scheduled for October 19 at Whitby Public Library, 405 Dundas Street West, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Ajax Public Library location at 55 Harwood Avenue South is scheduled for October 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A third hub will be held October 22 at Clarington Library, Museums and Archives, 163 Church Street in Bowmanville, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Region directs residents to durham.ca/IDandBenefitsHubs for details on what to bring and tax-filing appointments.
